Now, a 15-year-old girl has been arrested, charged by police in England and, on Wednesday, taken to York magistrates court for a preliminary hearing in the murder case of Katie Rough.
Katie was found in a field in the Woodthorpe area of York on Monday after police were called to a nearby address.
The teen, who can not be identified because she is a minor, stared straight forward during the eight-minute hearing which revealed little Katie died as a result of severe lacerations to her neck and chest.
She wrote, "The terrible death of Katie the little 7-year-old girl in York has really saddened me, I cant stop thinking about what her mum and family will be going through".
Mr Corbyn said: "I'm sure the whole House will join in heartfelt condolences to the family and friends following the tragic death of seven-year-old Katie Rough in York earlier this week".
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Ellis said the 15-year-old remained in police custody and officers were carrying out house-to-house inquiries.
"I think it's right we send condolences to her family".

Police are appealing for anyone who saw two girls in the area of Morrell Court, Belhouse Way, Osprey Close and Alness Drive on Monday afternoon for information.

"I dont know if its too early to say this but Id like to raise money to give to her family to help them through this awful time without any other worries".
She said she had lived next door for around six months and said they were a "lovely family". She was moving back and forth between the playing field and the street and was crying out.
"She was really friendly, running around".
Neighbour Vicky Gilmour said: "It's quite shocking isn't it?" We just need to be given time to grieve'. "It's a tight community down here, you see kids playing out in the fields all the time, and I just didn't expect this".
