On Monday, media news site Deadline was the first to report that Rich had been suspended from her job writing for the "Weekend Update" news segment on Saturday Night Live, the NBC show that's often traded barbs with President Trump.
Laurie Kilmartin of "Conan" tweeted, "I have tweets in my drafts folder that I'm glad I sat on".
According to the AP, Rich deleted the tweet and has apologized and expressed "deep regret" over the "insensitive tweet".
Not everyone accepted Rich's apology.

Supporters pointed out the hypocrisy of such a stern-fisted approach from the very show that helped normalize Trump by allowing him to host.
"I love that Barron is a kid being a kid".
'So many against your tweet preaching against insensitivity, but showing their own insensitivity in replies, ' said Brad Leese.
Weenier Power said: "Love your work @katiemaryrich!"

"Modern Family" star Julie Bowen (who appeared in Hillary Clinton's "Fight Song" video last year) also received criticism Friday when she posted a series of Instagram photos poking fun at Barron's expressions during the inauguration.
The 10-year-old, who attends a prestigious private school in NY, was the subject of jokes by some online, including Saturday Night Live writer and Modern Family star Julie Bowen.
