It's not clear what aircraft were supporting the raid; what has been confirmed is that a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey aircraft called in to evacuate the wounded American soldiers crash landed, injuring 2 service members (1 according to other sources).
"Americans are saddened this morning with news that a life of a heroic service member has been taken in our fight against the evil of radical Islamic terrorism", he added.
U.S. commandos are reported to have carried out a major raid in central Yemen against al-Qaeda forces.
A third family member, Tarek al-Dhahab, was killed in a previous U.S. drone strike years ago.

The name of the service member killed has been withheld, pending notification of next of kin. USA officials, after indicating that they could not confirm reports of civilian casualties, said they were now assessing the claims. One additional service member was wounded in the landing.
U.S. military officials believe AQAP is exploiting the ongoing civil war in Yemen to solidify its presence there.
The tilt-rotor aircraft was intentionally destroyed in place by a US raid once it was determined that it could not leave the crash landing site. A provincial official said Apache helicopters targeted a hospital, school and mosque used by al-Qaeda.
In what appears to be the first American military action in the country under President Donald Trump, Yemeni security officials said three al Qaeda leaders and dozens of militants were killed in the assault. USA military officials contacted by The Associated Press had no immediate comment but said they were looking into the report. According to the White House, 14 AQAQ fighters were killed.
The group reported that the operation took place in al-Bayda governorate, which borders Shabwa, SITE said.
