After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for "Scalebound".
First announced in 2014 at E3, Scalebound was said to be a departure from the crazy-action gameplay that developer PlatinumGames is known for. The developer released three confirmed duds throughout 2016 - Star Fox Zero and it's bundled tower-defense title Star Fox Guard, and the utterly awful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, itself pulled from digital stores last week. The title has been in development for years over at Platinum Games under the leadership of Hideki Kamiya, who was also behind Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Resident Evil 2.
There were video snippets of Scalebound shown off, but the public nor the press were never able to actually test the game in mid-development, which is something that most other titles have allowed.
I've reached out to Microsoft and Platinum Games for more information, and will update if and when I receive a reply; Microsoft told Kotaku that it would "have more to share on "Scalebound" soon".
Xbox exclusive action game Scalebound has been canceled
These project members then returned, but Scalebound was now behind schedule. Eurogamer has asked Microsoft for comment.
There are also a handful of smaller exclusive titles making their way to the Xbox One and Windows 10. Microsoft set Scalebound for a 2016 release only to be delayed until 2017 before getting canceled for good.
Gamers got their first glimpse of Scalebound nearly three years ago at E3 in 2014.
"We will be sharing more about our vision for Scalebound later this year and can't wait to give you a closer look at the world of Draconis and the incredible creatures and experiences we're building".
Microsoft undoubtedly hears these concerns though and it likely took these things into consideration before cancelling the game.
