The bad news is that you will need to be a Comcast broadband subscriber, but don't fret, as there are at least three other competitors: AT&T's DirecTV, Google's YouTube TV, and Hulu's unnamed service.
Viewers' habits are evolving, making it mandatory for the company to make suitable changes to its video offerings. Xfinity Instant TV could also potentially replace Stream TV, a "skinny-bundle IPTV package" that is now being tested in Boston and Chicago.
Xfinity Instant TV is reportedly an updated version of Stream, the video service launched by Comcast two years ago as a trial product in Boston and Chicago. Apart from having Spanish language channels the likes of Telemundo and Univision, it will also have add-on option for sports channels like ESPN.
Ultimately Comcast clearly doesn't want to offer an over the top streaming service outside of its traditional cable footprint for fear of cannibalizing existing Pay TV customers, who pay significantly more.
Xfinity Instant TV is anticipated to launch in Q3 2017. There are not too many details about the packages yet, however, the service is expected to be a no-contract offering without "truck rolls" (equipment for a service delivered by a network operator). Multichannel News reported last month that a rebrand was in the works ahead of a commercial launch later this year that would have customers access those subscriptions via the newly unified Xfinity Stream app.
Prince Harry and girlfriend Meghan Markle set to move in together
And guess what, the love birds will be living right next to the elder royal couple, Prince William and Kate . Harry confirmed his relationship with American actress Markle in November previous year .
In the meantime, Comcast's stock was trading at$ 37.11 a fall of $0.27 or 0.72%.
The service, dubbed Xfinity Instant TV, will be priced as low as $15 a month to roughly $40 a month, sources said. Another big part of the strategy is that Comcast hopes the skinny bundles become stepping-stones for subscribers to upgrade to full-blown pay TV.
Comcast Violating Net Neutrality Rules?
Comcast subscribers will likely not be charged against internet data caps.
Comcast's service is a huge perk to those already enjoying the company's internet. "Therefore, Stream TV data usage will not be counted towards your XFINITY Internet monthly data usage", asserts Comcast on its support page.
