The guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) launched missile strikes from the Eastern Mediterranean.
The report also notes that Russian news agency TASS claims that the frigate was headed on a routine trip toward a logistics base in Tartus, Syria, which is located 98 miles to the northwest of capital city Damascus.
The Russian frigate, Admiral Grigorovich RFS-494, passed through the Bosphorus Strait "a few hours ago" from the Black Sea, the news network said, attributing the information to an unnamed US defense official.
The senator said the US must also move forward in Raqqa and Mosul, Iraq, by retaking those areas from ISIS while also acting against Assad's war crimes.
Tass, citing a "military-diplomatic source", said the Admiral Grigorovich would visit a Syrian logistics base.

Trump on Thursday ordered the USA military to strike airfields near the chemical weapons storage facility at Shayrat Airbase in response to one of the deadliest attacks in the country's 6-year civil war.
The move came hours after the Kremlin issued a statement condemning, what it called, the United States' "act of aggression" against the Russian ally.
