The game has sold 3.84 million units total worldwide, with 2.76 million of them on the Switch and the remaining 1.08 million on the Wii U.
The Wii U sold only 760,000 units over the last fiscal year, a 77% decrease from the year before.
Hard-nosed computer games company Nintendo has claimed that it has sold 2.74 million Nintendo Switch consoles since the device was released at the beginning of March.
The first title, an action-platformer called League of Evil, was previously announced for 3DS and Wii U, though the Wii U version has now been cancelled with development moving over to Switch. Even more impressive than sales of the Switch have been sales of its top game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Sales of 3DS games like Pokémon Sun and Moon (15.44 million units) as well as Super Mario Maker (2.34 million units) also helped, boosting global 3DS hardware sales for the period to 7.27 million units, a 7% increase over the prior year.

Today as part of Nintendo's latest earnings report for the fiscal year ended March 31, Nintendo provided the first worldwide shipment update for the Nintendo Switch. That it was able to sell 2.74 million units, and in a non-holiday quarter no less, is rather astonishing. Despite several games releasing with heavy amiibo compatibility, sales were limited to 9.1 million figures and 9.3 million cards for the entire fiscal year. The company said the 3DS handheld console, which was released in 2011, saw a 7 percent year-on-year rise in sales.
The Nintendo Switch is still hard to find. However, this fall was expected due to the launch of the Nintendo Switch.
Net sales for the fiscal year 489.085b yen (US$4.391bn), operating income 29.362b yen (~$263m), ordinary profit 50.364bn yen (~$452m).
One such bet is with the company's mobile games, Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem.
Mr. Kimishima said Nintendo would be spending more this year on promotion to sell the Switch, putting a drag on operating profit. We have also included 50.3 billion yen share of profit of entities accounted for using the equity method related to The Pokémon Company and other investments, resulting in an ordinary profit of 20.2 billion yen. We will release Splatoon 2 in July. Software sales were also strong, selling over 55 million copies of 3DS games, which is a 14% increase over the previous year.
