"The officers arrived at 30-year-old Charleena Lyles' fourth-floor Magnuson Park apartment around 10 a.m. Sunday after she called to report a burglary, according to the Seattle Police Department's online crime-blotter page".
Lyles said, "Get ready, mother---" to the two officers, according to the transcript released Monday night. Police claim that she brandished a knife before they killed her, but have yet to say whether or not she threatened them or moved aggressively toward them in any way.
Earlier on the tape, before the officers head into the apartment, they talk about the woman previously waving large metal shears, trying to prevent officers from leaving her apartment and making statements about her and her daughter turning into wolves.
But a confrontation quickly erupted.
Seattle Police Detective Mark Jamieson said Lyles had a recent "encounter" with police, who have been called to her apartment several times before - a history that warranted the dispatch of two officers rather than one. After Lyles let them into her home for further questioning, the officers are heard yelling "Get back!"
The incident came days after a police officer in Minnesota was cleared of all charges in the 2016 shooting death of Philando Castile, an African American man who was killed in his vehicle in front of his r four-year-old daughter.
In other words, those two officers brought a bulldozer into a situation that required a full set of precision tools. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, police said.
All Seattle officers now receive training on how to better handle those with mental illness or abusing drugs.
Family members said Lyles was several months pregnant and had been struggling with mental-health issues for the past year. "I could have taken her down", said Monika Williams, Lyles' sister.
"Do our lives really matter to them?" he asked.

It was "road rage" that killed Nabra, just like it was a "parking dispute" that killed three Muslim students in Chapel Hill. Morrogh also did not rule out pursuing hate crime charges if fresh evidence pointed in that direction.
The names of the officers involved were not released.
Furthermore, police forces all over the world are creating very simple solutions to help disarm people with knives or scissors, which Lyles was allegedly holding during a separate incident on June 5. How is it possible that two officers couldn't restrain a "tiny" 30-year-old woman without using guns?
"Wait, is this the one with, like, the three kids?" one officer asks, alluding to the two boys and one girl, ages 11, 4 and 1. A woman's voice responds, "Yes".
"Hey! Get back! Get back!" an officer shouts before an eruption of gunfire.
The woman's voice responds, "Do it! do it!"
"We call for a thorough and fair investigation", Solid Ground Communication Director Mike Buchman said in a statement.
In the recording - issued by Seattle police - officers can be heard shouting, "Hey!"
On Monday, an audio recording by the officers' dashcam of the incident was released.
On the audio, the woman can be heard discussing with the officers that there was a break-in. At the end of the video, an officer can be seen partially backing out of the doorway with his arms raised. Had she been wealthy, white, and famous - or any combination of those - I'm sure the police would've been much more careful and Lyles would've ultimately ended up in a hospital somewhere, receiving the treatment she so desperately needed. And in the vast majority of those instances, officers used the lowest level of force.
Mayor Ed Murray called the shooting of Lyles a tragedy.
