Crossing party lines after the shooting that left four people injured, including House Majority Whip Steve #Scalise, Democrat and Republican lawmakers still pushed through with the 57th Congressional Baseball Game Thursday at Nationals Park.
Republican Congressman Steve Scalise has been undergoing a third surgery after he and others were shot at a baseball practice by a man hostile to the GOP.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Republicans and Democrats joined in a spirited, friendly rivalry Thursday at their annual Congressional Baseball game, many fresh from the penetrating horror of the ballfield shooting rampage a day earlier and all playing in honor of their grievously wounded colleague. The crowd chanted "USA!"
Shooter James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., was shot and died later Wednesday of his wounds in the hospital.
Though the game pegs Republicans against Democrats, attendees and participating lawmakers showed unity in wake of the shooting.
On Wednesday night, Trump, accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, visited Scalise at the hospital.
And even as the fans rose as one to cheer Scalise's name and the Capitol Police, there was no mistaking the lusty cheers for their own side as the game progressed.
"Speaker (Paul) Ryan did himself credit when he said 'an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us, '" Larson said.

Aguilar plays outfield for the Democratic team; before the shooting, Scalise was slated to play second base for the Republicans.
Thursday's match-up represents a tie-breaker in the series.
