A third French citizen has died following Saturday's attack on London Bridge, President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday, taking the overall death toll to eight.
Xavier Thomas (45) had not been seen since Saturday night.
"On Tuesday, 6 June, at approximately 19.44 hours the body of a man was recovered from the river, near Limehouse, by specialist officers from the Marine Police Unit".
"Formal identification has not yet taken place, however Mr. Thomas' next of kin have been informed of this development", Met Police said in a statement.
"He is thought to have been skateboarding in a park when he stopped to defend a woman who had been injured in the attack near Borough Market".
If confirmed, Thomas would be the eighth person killed in the vehicle and knife attack.
Former Conservative Home Office minister Damian Green said on Wednesday that the European Union information-sharing system should have been enough to stop Zaghba travelling to the UK.
Youssef Zaghba, 22, one of three men who carried out Saturday night's atrocity, was able to get into the United Kingdom despite being arrested previous year on his way to Syria where he planned to fight for Isis.
