About a week after Comey was sacked last month, however, Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Mueller as a special counsel at the Justice Department to oversee the federal investigation into Russia's efforts to meddle in the 2016 USA election, according to CBS News.
Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy, a friend of the President, said earlier this week that Trump was considering firing Mueller, who has been appointed to investigate Russia's influence on the 2016 presidential election.
Aside for Mueller, Feinstein also noted how Trump previously received a memo from Rosenstein, containing the Deputy Attorney General's recommendation ahead of the Comey firing. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote in his tweet on Friday.
Although USA Today also noted that the tweet came shortly after a Washington Post report that Mueller's team is also investigating Trump son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner's business dealings. Some of his ire is aimed at Rosenstein and investigative special counsel Robert Mueller, both of whom the president believes are biased against him, associates say. Mueller also has expansive powers to investigate any matters that develop from his initial investigation.
The widened Russian Federation probe could have far-reaching repercussions for Trump's presidency, transforming his closest aides into witnesses and sucking even more political oxygen out of the West Wing. Mueller is now leading the investigation into whether Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said only he has the power to fire Mueller, and in his testimony this week he said he has no cause to fire him.
