A total of 22 states have so far abolished their check posts ensuring a smooth transition from the previous state specific taxes to the national Goods and Services Tax (GST) which was launched on July 1.
Last month, Jaitley had written to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to implement GST as failing to do so would lead to "adverse impact" of price rise and put local industry at a disadvantage.
As many as 22 states abolished check posts post the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), a finance ministry statement said.
"Toll, mandi charges, fee on vehicle entry into states to continue but there will be no levy of any entry tax on goods movement", Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia told reporters here following the first meeting here of the Cabinet Secretary-headed Central Monitoring Committee on the GST. Sinha has also asked all the departments/ministry to provide all the relevant information relating to GST concerning their ministry/department, including GST rates on their respective websites. Accordingly, they should be fully ready to deal with it so that there is quick response to any situation.
Sinha asked the Departments' concerned to ensure that retailers, dealers and shopkeepers display the post GST prices of different items being sold by them.
