Other notable hospitals on the Honor Roll include UCSF Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Durham, North Carolina-based Duke University Hospital.
"While we are proud of the programs that have been recognized, we are disappointed with the overall rankings of the Medical Center", U. of C. Medicine said.
The U. also ranked as "high performing" in orthopedics, pulmonology, and neurology and neurosurgery. The Cleveland Clinic ranked No. 2, followed by Johns Hopkins Hospital at No. 3, up from No. 4 past year. Among the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital's six ranked specialties, four slipped and two made gains.
The current approach used in the U.S. News hospital rankings is created to make measures of hospital quality more transparent to the public.
University of Iowa Health Care in February opened a new $360 million, 14-floor, stand-alone children's hospital - adding 134 pediatric beds and 507,000 square feet to the UI Hospitals and Clinics main campus. Also, for the first time this year, U.S. News risk-adjusted for socioeconomic status, adjusted volume to improve comparability among hospitals and used a broader definition of transfer cases to ensure hospitals are rewarded for accepting high-risk patients.
Trump's approval rating down to 33%
Trump's numbers declined more among Republicans than they did among Democrats , who had already viewed the President unfavorably. A new survey from Quinnipiac University found his approval rating stood at just 33 percent, a record low for Trump in the poll.
"Our specialty rankings focus on identifying hospitals that excel in caring for especially sick or challenging patients", he wrote in an email. "We're really pleased that we can have a major presence in this city", he said.
In specialty rankings, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center ranked No. 1 in cancer and the Cleveland Clinic ranked No. 1 in cardiology and heart surgery.
Since 2016, UK HealthCare has gone from one specialty top-50 ranking - Geriatrics, which moved up two spots from #45 to #43 - to having four major adult specialties nationally ranked. The Brigham was ranked 13th overall a year ago.
"It allows not only our patients but also our physicians and staff to be seamlessly in touch with the best medical knowledge, technology and expert care available in the world on a daily basis", he said.
Complicating the comparison of the Medicare and U.S. News rankings is the fact that the magazine has an advertising component with its report. Dr. Jon Sweetenham, senior director for clinical affairs at the institute, said the center's reach likely played a big role in its high ranking.
