The cause of the explosion is believed to be a gas leak. Duffey remained in critical condition Thursday and HCMC confirmed two others remained hospitalized in "satisfactory" condition.
One of the injured people is in critical condition, Minneapolis Fire Department spokesperson Brian Tyner said at a news conference.
Three people had been missing initially, but one of them was later found uninjured.
The family had contacted the hospital and were told John was not brought in with other victims, she said.
Although some students were in the building at the time of the blast, classes were not in session due to the summer break.
"There could be more or less people (unaccounted for)", a fire official said. "We were pretty lucky". None of the victims were treated for burns, and a lot of them were conscious upon arrival at the hospital. "My first thought was that has to be an natural disaster".
"Everything shook. All the cupboard doors were blown open", she said.

Jacobson, the administrator, was in a second-floor office when she heard a blast. She said the explosion was instantaneous with their warning to evacuate.
Tuition and fees for the school range from about $12,000 for kindergarten to more than $21,000 for a senior in high school.
Carlson's wife, Barbara Carlson, told the Star Tribune: "I'm not doing well.
Everybody out! Everybody out!' and the explosion", Buck said. There are two campuses, the South Campus for preschool through 8th graders, and the North Campus, for 9th through 12th graders. Firefighters were combing the wreckage at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis Wednesday, looking for one person who was unaccounted for, police said.
