The Malaysian Navy also located a body, which it has given to the USA to identify.
Scott Swift said divers had located "some remains" in damaged compartments but did not specify how many sets of remains were found.
The fleet said it had identified the remains of Electronics Technician 3rd Class Kenneth Aaron Smith, 22, from New Jersey.
Still missing are nine other personnel that include electronics and information technicians and communications electricians.

On Monday, Navy destroyer John S. McCain collided with an oil tanker off the coast of Singapore.
They were discovered in a compartment that flooded after a gaping hole was torn in the McCain's rear hull on Monday.

A statement on the US Seventh Fleet's website confirmed the identities of one sailor killed and of nine sailors still missing following the collision. Efforts are underway to drain the flooded parts of the ship and restore its auxiliary systems, the US Navy said.
Following the McCain collision, the Navy said that it would put an "operational pause" on all Navy vessels and ordered a broad investigation.
