As Home Minister was interacting with delegations in Srinagar, militants fired on a police party at General Bus Stand in south Kashmir's Anantnag district at around 5.30 pm. Later in the evening, an encounter erupted in Imam Sahib area of Shopian district late in the evening.
Home Minister said, "Iss dehshatgardi se Kashmir ko nijaat mil ke rahegi aur phir se humara Kashmir jannat ban ke rahega (we will find respite from this unrest and Kashmir will be heavenly place again)".
The Minister, who will be accompanied by Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and senior officials of his Ministry, will also review Prime Minister's Development Package and meet various delegations at Srinagar and Jammu.
Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in six police station areas of Srinagar as a preventive measure.

The delegation also sought a sustained and open-ended political engagement with stakeholders in Kashmir irrespective of their ideology, and urged New Delhi and Islamabad to make honest and sustained efforts towards resumption of a comprehensive dialogue on all outstanding issues including that of Kashmir, the spokesman said.
The Home Minister said he is keen to work for a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue.
"It is a constitutional guarantee to the unique identity and legitimate rights of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, irrespective of religion or caste", the party provincial president said.
Speaking at the Sainik Sammelan at the CRPF base, the minister said its men were born with "unassailable and unmatched courage".
The home minister also had meeting with leaders and representatives of various political, social and trade organisations to know their views on the issues confronting the state.
