Sanders made the announcement upon Mr. Trump's return to the White House Sunday, after he spent the weekend with Vice President Mike Pence and Cabinet officials at Camp David, where he was briefed on the ongoing impacts of the storm.
The response doesn't seem to affect the Trump team, as the president has continued to wear his hat in different colors throughout his week while he weighed in on the destruction of Hurricane Harvey.
"As I said, he'll pledge probably $1 million of his own personal money to help the people of both Texas and Louisiana", Sanders said.
As it happens, NPR has a list of where people wishing to donate funds to the Harvey recovery might look - as well as a warning about scams and schemes to avoid.

Donald Trump is donating $1million of his own money to charity for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, the Daily Mail reports. He has in the past also exaggerated the amount of money he has given through his now-shuttered charitable foundation.
Trump ultimately chose to give the funds to the National Park Service and U.S. Department of Education over the first half of the year after the White House said he was required to receive payment.
Trump tweeted earlier Sunday that he would be traveling to Texas as soon as he could go "without causing disruption". White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says they may visit the Houston area, as well as Lake Charles, Louisiana, though she is stressing the plans are still tentative.
