United States expands travel ban to include N Korea

Amnesty International USA condemned the new measures, saying: "Just because the original ban was especially outrageous does not mean we should stand for yet another version of government-sanctioned discrimination".

New parts of the restrictions will take effect October 18, a grace period that may prevent the kind of mass confusion seen at airports in the US and overseas after the initial iteration of the travel ban took effect immediately.

Citizens of Iran will not be eligible for tourism and business visas, but remain eligible for student and cultural exchange visas if they undergo additional scrutiny.

Most citizens of Chad, Libya and Yemen will be blocked from emigrating to or visiting the United States because the countries do not have the technical capability to identify and screen their travelers, and in many cases have terrorist networks in their countries, officials said.

Iraq did not meet the standards, according to Trump's order, but the Iraqi government's "close cooperative relationship" with the United States was cited as a reason to not include the country in the travel restriction order.

What is the reason for the restrictions?

Mr. Trump tweeted shortly after the proclamation's release, writing "Making America Safe is my number one priority".

The restrictions are targeted at countries that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claims fail to share sufficient information with the United States or haven't taken necessary security precautions.

Trump received a set of policy recommendations on Friday from acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke and was briefed on the matter by other administration officials, including Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, a White House aide said.

But it wasn't until last month that the agency concluded the cybercriminals involved may have used their bounty to make illicit trades.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump cryptically replied in response to a question about the ban: "The travel ban: The tougher, the better". But the new proclamation removed restrictions that were placed on Sudan.

What is being said about it?

Tell @realDonaldTrump that you will not be distracted. Trump wanted to ensure safety for the Americans.

The previous incarnation of the travel ban was against nationals of six.

The Trump administration has unveiled new travel restrictions on certain foreigners from Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen as a replacement to a central portion of its controversial travel ban signed earlier this year.

Critics accuse the president of overstepping his authority and violating the Constitution's protections against religious bias by targeting Muslims.

Trump's fake empathy for Iranians rings ever more hollow, with his new and even more offensive travel ban against such outstanding citizens.

And the inclusion of North Korea and Venezuela appears to be mostly symbolic.

Will Donald Trumps' travel bans serve any goal? Extreme Vetting is necessary! The court could return the entire dispute to the trial court level or alternatively dismiss the case over the temporary ban and leave it to the challengers to file new lawsuits.
