United States expands travel ban to include N Korea

Amnesty International USA condemned the new measures, saying: "Just because the original ban was especially outrageous does not mean we should stand for yet another version of government-sanctioned discrimination".
New parts of the restrictions will take effect October 18, a grace period that may prevent the kind of mass confusion seen at airports in the US and overseas after the initial iteration of the travel ban took effect immediately.
Citizens of Iran will not be eligible for tourism and business visas, but remain eligible for student and cultural exchange visas if they undergo additional scrutiny.
Most citizens of Chad, Libya and Yemen will be blocked from emigrating to or visiting the United States because the countries do not have the technical capability to identify and screen their travelers, and in many cases have terrorist networks in their countries, officials said.
Iraq did not meet the standards, according to Trump's order, but the Iraqi government's "close cooperative relationship" with the United States was cited as a reason to not include the country in the travel restriction order.
What is the reason for the restrictions?
Mr. Trump tweeted shortly after the proclamation's release, writing "Making America Safe is my number one priority".
The restrictions are targeted at countries that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claims fail to share sufficient information with the United States or haven't taken necessary security precautions.
Trump received a set of policy recommendations on Friday from acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke and was briefed on the matter by other administration officials, including Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, a White House aide said.
