A group is circulating petitions to put raising Michigan's minimum wage to $12 an hour by 2022 on the November ballot.
The liberal-leaning Cleveland think tank estimates another 478,000 workers who earn a little more than minimum wage will likely get a bump in pay because employers will adjust their pay scales to reflect the higher state rate.
Florida's minimum wage will increase to $8.25 an hour Monday, 15 cents higher than the current rate.
The new figure will be set at €9.55 per hour - an increase of 30c per hour.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo included the wage increase in the 2016 Built To Lead Agenda.

Although the raise will help poor working Ohioans, but $8.30 per hour still leaves a full-time worker about $3,000 short of the poverty line for a family of three and this is why there is a push from many workers to pass a state-level $15 per hour minimum wage. And that is the same rate for smaller companies with annual gross receipts of $305,000 or less per year, after January 1, 2018. For fast-food workers outside of New York City, the minimum wage will rise to $12.75 an hour on Dec. 31, 2018, $13.75 an hour on Dec. 31, 2019 and $14.50 an hour on Dec. 31, 2020.
The minimum wage is going up in some states and cities, including here in Florida.
"In many cases, our employers are paying beyond minimum wage", he said. Tipped employees must be paid at least $5 an hour by employers.
"The minimum wage increase, new paid family leave requirements and the state's proposed employee scheduling regulations are concerning to employers in the area", he said.
