Two men in their 90's died in El Paso and their deaths are being recorded as flu-related by the Department of Public Health (DPH).
"The flu shot doesn't cover the main strain of flu out there", Fryman said. "Stay at home if you have the flu or flu-like symptoms to avoid contact with others".
"The flu window is from October to really April", said Dr. Dill. "That's why getting the flu vaccination is the safest and most effective way to prevent the flu for everyone six months and older".
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says a flu epidemic is now sweeping the country. But unless you're very sick, it's best to avoid the emergency room-it's easy to pick up other infections there.
"We're getting reports every single day about positive flu cases", said Fleming County Health Department Director Stephanie Fryman. Choose a product with at least 60 percent alcohol.

Investigator and police inspector Lau Thygesen from North Zealand Police described the case as "very big and complex". The case involves around 800 males and 200 females, a lot of them between the ages of 15 and 20.

On the Wisconsin side of the border in Rock County, flu cases are on pace to nearly double compared to a year ago if the rate of positive cases continues. "With flu it's typical to have chills, high fever, muscle aches, and feel very poorly", says Andrew Pavia, M.D., professor of pediatrics and medicine at the University of Utah and a spokesman for Infectious Diseases Society of America. But those more likely to experience potentially unsafe complications from flu include: children under 5; adults age 65 or older; pregnant women; people with chronic conditions such as heart, lung, kidney, or liver disease, or diabetes; those who have HIV or who are taking immunosuppressant drugs such as prednisone (Deltasone, Prednicot, others and generic) or drugs used in cancer chemotherapy. "I am directing the Department of Health to work with local providers to help protect our communities from this flu outbreak, and I urge all New Yorkers to visit local health centers and get vaccinated as soon as possible".
