It'll be #1 vs. #2 as James Madison faces off against North Dakota State in the Football Championship Subdivision national title game from Frisco, Texas on Saturday at noon.
Grimsley and the Bison won the title during the 2015 season, but James Madison upset NDSU past year in the semifinals before being crowned champion.
The Bison have won 14 national championships in football with the first eight coming in Division II before NDSU transitioned to Division I.
They saved the best for last in the FCS this season.
The Bison outgained James Madison 264-241 and held the Dukes to just 93 yards rushing. Klieman said the first step in overcoming injuries is expecting them to happen.
Meanwhile, the Bison have run wild with a deep running back corps that's withstood injuries, led by 1,186-yard rusher Bruce Anderson.
"I have a tremendous amount of respect for how JMU does it - how they play defense, how they run the football", Klieman added.
Despite being the No. 1 team in every national poll every week of the season, the Dukes haven't been favored in a game since their quarterfinal win over Weber State.
Fans Are Filthy About Justin Timberlake's New Song
The singer announced his new album, Man Of The Woods , on Tuesday, sharing a new country direction to his music , but the new single is anything but country.
"It's hard to put into words, but this culture is fantastic, the fans, the coaches, the players.it's so special", said Bison wide receiver Darrius Shepherd, who had a 50-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. They trailed infrequently while winning 26 consecutive games, 14 of them this season. "I know I'll have these guys the rest of my life".
After showing flashes of excellence in the third quarter, the Dukes' reverted to their sloppy style of play from the first half in the fourth quarter. James Madison got another, 21-yard field goal from Ratke to make the score 17-6 at halftime. Sophomore cornerback Marquise Bridges intercepted Schor's pass at the NDSU 3-yard line.
"It's a tremendous honor to be here representing James Madison University and the CAA", JMU head coach Mike Houston said.
"And we firmly believed that", said Houston.
A personal foul penalty on JMU on the play gave the Bison the ball at the 44.
The Bison continued to prevent big plays, rough up Schor (four sacks, twice as many scrambles), and keep JMU from moving the ball much on the ground. "We felt like we'd get that look from them". "Field goals don't beat you and that's what we tried to do". He also rushed for 19 yards on 14 attempts.
Under center for the Bison will be Easton Stick (39 total touchdowns, 62.4 completion percentage). After taking over at their own 44-yard line, Stick handed the ball off to Anderson for 13 yards on two plays and Dunn for two yards on two plays before whistling a dart to junior wide receiver Darrius Shepherd, who converted a wide-open pass downfield into a 50-yard touchdown to extend NDSU's lead to 14-3.
"You have the, hands down, top two conferences in the country and the clear top two teams in the country", Houston said.
