The actress filed a police report against her former Charles in Charge co-star, Scott Baio, on Tuesday, after publicly alleging that Baio sexually abused her for years, starting when she was 14 years old.
"Yesterday Nicole Eggert and I met with two police detectives from the sexual assault unit at my law firm", Bloom said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. We're told 2 detectives spent 2 hours as Eggert detailed her allegations. that Baio molested her when she was 14, 15 and 16 while they filmed "Charles In Charge" - something Baio strongly denies.
Baio's rep told the website, "We've been demanding since a year ago that Nicole Eggert bring her story to the authorities. A witness, Alexander Polinsky, appeared as well and told the detectives about inappropriate touching he witnessed, as well as his own allegations of bullying by Scott Baio". Many have reached out to Nicole and me to say that they witnessed inappropriate behavior from Scott Baio when Nicole was underage. Baio has also previously denied Eggert's claim they had intercourse when she was 17, explaining that by her own admission in a previous interview, they had intercourse after the show was over - the show ended in 1990, when Eggert was 18. She continues, "I'm sobbing and I looked at it, and I said to myself, 'It's not a legit bridge, you're not going to die, you're going to break a lot of bones and you're not even going to kill yourself". It was clear; however, how heartbroken Sara was reading the abuse her friend had not only witnessed but also suffered according to his statement. At one point, Baio challenged Eggert to file a police report and now she has done just that. She's now fielding requests on social media for anyone who may have witnessed the alleged incidents. "That's unconscionable." Nicole first made her allegation against Scott on January 27. Regarding crimes before that date, "prosecution for the crimes of rape, sodomy, lewd or lascivious acts, continuous sexual abuse of a child, oral copulation, and sexual penetration, if committed against a victim who was under 18 years of age, may be commenced at any time prior to the victim's 40th birthday". "Only after Nicole Eggert was proven to be dishonest in her "sex at 17" allegations did she create a new story about sexual contact at an even younger age".
Eggert said that seeing other women come forward with their stories of sexual abuse in this #MeToo era gave her the courage to speak up.
