Ryan Coogler's superhero flick has also grossed $1.2 billion globally and is the fifth Marvel film to earn over $1 billion in theaters. The film has become the top-grossing superhero film of all-time in North America, earning $624 million.
To achieve the milestone, Black Panther clawed its way past fellow Marvel Studios blockbuster The Avengers, which pulled in $623.4 million in the US when it was released in 2012. You can check out the numbers over at Box Office Mojo. Bringing inflation into account, Black Panther will have to earn approximately $676 million to overtake Marvel Studios first big team-up film.

Black Panther reached $630 million (£445.6 million) in earnings on Saturday, flying past the $623.4 million (£440.9 million) earned by first outing of Tony Stark and pals to become the highest grossing superhero movie ever in the country. Additionally, The Last Jedi did $619,896,809, which means that Black Panther has now already passed the Star Wars movie with its sights set on the Avengers, which it will easily take down by Sunday. THR projects the film will overtake Iron Man 3 (2013) and begin challenging last year's The Fate of the Furious ($1.236 billion) for 12th position by the end of the weekend. The Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron, is the next one down on the list, with a total domestic box office of $459 million.
Black Panther will return in Avengers Infinity War, released in United Kingdom cinemas on April 26, 2018. Even with the movie breaking pre-sale records (which have now just been beaten by Infinity War), nobody saw Black Panther making so much money in such a short amount of time. Even putting aside the far-reaching cultural impact of its majority-black cast and thematically relevant storyline, its critical and commercial success overall represents a high point for the MCU.
