Now that McCabe has been dumped, he is likely to follow suit.
Shortly after the announcement, Trump described it as "a great day for democracy".
But Bromwich said the decision process was unfairly rushed. He also took a swipe at "sanctimonious" former FBI Director James Comey and said "choirboy" McCabe knew about the "lies and corruption" going on at the FBI. He served in that role until 2 August when Christopher Wray took charge.
McCabe defended his integrity after the news broke, telling The New York Times: "The idea that I was dishonest is just wrong".
However, he denied those allegations in a statement Friday night.
The report by the Department of Justice Inspector General found evidence that McCabe had questionable contacts with a reporter and was not fully forthcoming when asked about it about an investigation concerning the Clinton Foundation.
McCabe said in his statement that the inspector general's report was fast-tracked after he told the House Intelligence Committee he would corroborate Comey's accounts of conversations he had with the president. "This concerted effort to accelerate the process in order to beat the ticking clock of his scheduled retirement violates any sense of decency and basic principles of fairness".
Attorney John Dowd said in a statement that the investigation, now led by special counsel Robert Mueller, was fatally flawed early on and "corrupted" by political bias. "He called for me to be stripped of my pension after more than 20 years of service". White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has said the president was not involved in McCabe's departure. Trump has repeatedly accused McCabe of dishonesty.

Martin, who said she had joined the Trump Organization five years earlier, described Trump as helping to advance her career. All the alleged incidents took place before he became president and he has vehemently denied all the allegations.

The firing came days before he was set to retire from the bureau - and ahead of an upcoming inspector general report that will reportedly accuse McCabe of lacking candor with internal investigators. The FBI said McCabe's promotion and supervisory position in the email investigation happened three months after the campaign.
The move to fire McCabe looks to be spiteful given that it came two days before McCabe's 50 birthday, when he could have retired with full pension.
He became acting director following the firing last May of Comey, and immediately assumed direct oversight of the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign.
Mr McCabe had been on leave from the Federal Bureau of Investigation since January, when he abruptly left the deputy director position. "You may scapegoat Andy McCabe, but will not destroy America".
McCabe, who was the FBI's deputy under former director James Comey, is a potentially key witness in the Russian Federation probe.
