Turkey launched its offensive against the YPG on January 20 claiming that the Kurdish forces, which it argues are an offshoot of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), represent a "terrorist" threat to its southern borders.
A media outlet reported on Friday that the army troops and Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured another village in Syria's Northwestern Afrin and took control of a strategic dam.
Turkish forces have reached the outskirts of the town of Afrin after a weeks-long campaign against a Kurdish militia in northwest Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitoring group said on Saturday.
The Kurdish YPG is contesting this claim, however, with YPG spokesman Nouri Mahmoud saying that the Turks are more like 10 to 15 km away from Afrin, and that they definitely do not have the city surrounded.
"We are removing the last remaining obstacles standing before our besieging of Afrin city centre".
"We are in Afrin today; we will be in Manbij tomorrow".

On a visit to Ankara last month, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that Turkey and the US had to solve the tensions surrounding Manbij as a "priority".
Turkey's foreign minister said Thursday Turkish forces would complete the Afrin offensive by May and would carry out a joint operation against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in Iraq with Baghdad.
Relations between North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies United States and Turkey have been strained over a number of issues, notably the U.S. arming of the YPG.
