Having missed out on Van Marwijk's first squad due to a lack of game time, Melbourne City livewire Arzani headlined the 32-man list, announced just over a month out from the start of the tournament in Russian Federation.
Cahill was among 32 players picked in an expanded training squad, announced by coach Bert van Marwijk on Monday, but the veteran striker faces an anxious wait before knowing whether he will make the final cut for Russian Federation.
Despite starring for Australia at previous World Cups, Cahill - at the age of 38 - was in some doubt to be named.
Veteran Tim Cahill was included Monday in Bert van Marwijk's preliminary Australia squad for the World Cup, keeping him on track for a fourth appearance at the football showpiece.
The preliminary squad will be trimmed to 26 or 27 players ahead of a pre-tournament camp in Turkey later this month before the final 23-man roster is chosen on June 4. "He is playing in the highest division in Croatia", van Marwijk said.
An appeals system would also reduce the number of lengthy interruptions to the game caused by the referee feeling he has to check every single episode, van Marwijk added.
Karacic was born and has played his entire career in Croatia, but appears set to don Socceroos colours. He doesn't play (at the moment), maybe five or 10 or 20 minutes.
"I have to take a decision on whether to take him to the world championships".

The IoT Edge runtime is the piece that runs on each IoT Edge device and manages the modules deployed to each device. The software giant described its mission at the conference this way: "to help every developer be an AI developer".
"He is not 19 like (Daniel) Arzani - he's twice as old - but is also a player who can make a difference".
There were few shocks in the makeup of the squad with van Marwijk sticking with the experienced core of players who guided the Socceroos through the long qualifying phase although the Dutchman did include one surprise by picking uncapped defender Fran Karacic. Karacic holds an Australian passport, although he's never actually visited the country before.
The 21-year-old - whose father was born in Australia - is understood to have promised Football Federation Australia he will switch allegiance from Croatia, who he represented eight times at under 21 level, Herald Sun reported. His selection, Van Marwijk said, could provide a solution to the problematic right-back position.
The 38-year-old striker's spot has been a talking point, but he was included despite playing just 63 minutes in the Championship since his return to the club in January.

Striker Jamie McLaren's recent goal-scoring exploits in Scotland won him a recall alongside goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak, Alex Gersbach and Apostolos Giannou.
He has, though, sought wisdom about the Australian game and its players from former Melbourne City coach John van't Schip and had plans to speak with Han Berger.
