Kudlow said the US participated in G7 talks and bilateral talks on NAFTA in good faith and that Trump had been "charming".
At the summit's conclusion on Saturday, Trudeau reiterated that Ottawa was prepared to retaliate against the new tariffs if the United States did not back down, and said Canadians "would not be pushed around".
In a press briefing ahead of the summit, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow listed trade and bilateral discussions with Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron as priorities at the summit.
"I will always protect Canadian workers and Canadian interests", Mr Trudeau said.

But Kudlow said he doesn't know whether there will be a deal and that Trump had no alternative but to respond the way he did to Trudeau's "very unfortunate" statements.
Trudeau did not fire back when asked to respond to his USA counterpart's latest jab.
