Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall somewhere between North Carolina, South Carolina, and the Mid-Atlantic states on Thursday evening or Friday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Florence was still 785 miles east-southeast from Cape Fear, North Carolina as of 5pm AST.
The mayor of Washington, DC also has declared a state of emergency as the nation's capital prepares for heavy rains, flooding and power outages related to Hurricane Florence.
Travelers are bracing for a rough ride as Hurricane Florence barrels toward the East Coast, with the storm expected to snarl roadways, air and rail travel as early as Thursday and disruptions forecast to persist through the weekend.
As of early Monday, the storm was getting stronger, with maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour.
Boeing suspended operations Tuesday at plants in North Charleston, South Carolina, to give employees and their families time to evacuate ahead of Florence's making landfall. That would make it the most destructive storm in USA history in terms of financial losses for homeowners and businesses.
Meanwhile, a storm surge watch was sent out for Edisto Beach in SC to the North Carolina-Virginia border as well as Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds, including the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers.
"I'm telling them to go inland, but I'm anxious about the rain and tornadoes too", Roberts said.

According to CNN, weather experts say the storm is most likely to hit in the Carolinas.

Meanwhile, there are two other storms in the vicinity - Isaac and Olivia have become tropical storms, with Isaac heading for the Caribbean and Olivia set to hit Hawaii early on Wednesday.
