Hill, who testified about alleged sexual harassment by Judge Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings in 1991, described how the Senate Judiciary Committee should conduct its scheduled hearing Monday for Kavanaugh and Ford.
Republicans delayed a Senate Judiciary Committee vote on the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh this week to take Dr. Christine Blasey Ford up on her offer to share with the panel her allegations that he sexually assaulted her in high school. A spokesman for the judiciary committee told The Hill that Grassley would be willing to send staff members to California to hear from Ford in person.
Kavanaugh has strongly denied the incident in which Ford says he pinned her down and covered her mouth while trying to undress her when he was 17 and she 15.
"It kind of raises the question, do they want to come to the public hearing or not?"
He also rejected demands made by Kavanaugh's accuser to wait until after a further FBI investigation, stating that the FBI had already updated Kavanaugh's background check and would not be performing any further work to assess the credibility of Ford's accusations.
President Trump on Friday pointedly questioned the credibility of the woman who has accused Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were teenagers, contending she would have reported the attack to law enforcement at the time if it were as bad as she has said. Only if the White House "demands it" will the FBI investigate the claim, Carlson said.

Despite claims yesterday by her lawyer that Ford would testify publicly, Ford has yet to agree to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. "Only then should the chairman set a hearing date", Feinstein said.
She said she feared Kavanaugh might inadvertently kill her before she managed to flee. However, Flake said Tuesday that if Ford fails to appear at the hearing scheduled for Monday, he would support his party's push to move forward on a vote on Kavanaugh. "She's surely prepared. She hired a lawyer, I understand, back in August".
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, called Ford's silence "pretty telling", but added they hope she does testify. "They just resist and they just obstruct", he said.
Some Democratic lawmakers have also called for an FBI investigation.
Republicans, some of whom see the allegations as a stalling tactic by Democrats to thwart Kavanaugh's confirmation, have been pushing to confirm him before November's midterm elections, when they could lose their 51-49 majority control of the Senate.
Two hours after Ford's story first appeared on The Washington Post website Sunday, TV trucks arrived in the neighborhood. However, she and her lawyers have been insisting on a full FBI investigation into the alleged, almost four-decades-old assault despite the FBI considering the case to be closed.
