The New Yorker magazine reported on Sunday evening that a 53-year-old woman, Deborah Ramirez, who attended university with Kavanaugh, has alleged that the judge appeared to have thrust his genitals in her face at a drunken party during their freshman year in 1983-4 academic calendar.
Even before the latest turns, the carefully negotiated hearing at the Senate Judiciary Committee with Kavanaugh and Ford carried echoes of the Anita Hill hearings in 1991.
A classmate of Ramirez's, who was not at the party and who declined to be identified, told the magazine he is "one hundred per cent sure" that either on the night of the party or in the next day or two he was told Kavanaugh was the student who exposed himself to Ramirez.
For his own part, and under penalty of imprisonment, Kavanaugh not only denies any allegation that he acted improperly with Ford (or anyone), he denies being at this party - a party no one other than Ford remembers.
A spokesman for Utah Republican Mike Lee, who sits on the committee, told the Guardian that the new allegations came "absolutely [as a] 100% surprise" to the Senator. Here he is speaking on Fox yesterday. I don't know where it happened. Rasor said that Judge seemed to regard it as fully consensual.
MARTIN: We should note Senator Graham made these remarks before the second accusation emerged.
In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Kavanaugh said he "will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process".
Kavanaugh could try to indirectly address the Ramirez allegation in the Ford hearing by answering questions about his partying habits and sexual proclivities in a way that gets across he didn't expose himself to Ford.
Dallas Police Fire Officer Who Killed Botham Jean In His Own Home
The two accounts of the shooting offered slightly different details. "Let me in", before entering Botham's apartment. When she opened the door, she saw the interior was almost completely dark, according to the affidavit.
Mr Kavanaugh and his first accuser, university professor Christine Blasey Ford, are due to testify to the Senate judiciary committee on Thursday. "I am with him all the way", he said as he arrived in NY to attend the United Nations general assembly, calling the allegations politically motivated. "Which means, if that's the new standard, no man will ever qualify for the Supreme Court again".
A committee staffer emailed Avenatti "shortly after" he announced on Twitter he represented "a woman with credible information regarding Judge Kavanaugh and Mark Judge". But it's important for us to remember this is not a criminal trial. What's at stake here is a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.
Ford is set to testify at a Senate hearing on Thursday. Chuck Grassley, and asked that the new allegation be referred to the FBI for investigation. So what makes you think it can happen now? In fact, I would argue that these new allegations are even weaker than Ford's accusations.
White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec blamed Democrats for the latest allegation.
For survivors and the people who care about them, the message is crushing and familiar: Your experience doesn't matter.
COONS: And ultimately, that hearing had 20 witnesses.
Conway noted Monday on CBS "This Morning" that Kavanaugh, in a statement Sunday, called the allegations a "smear campaign." he added, "This is starting to feel like a vast left-wing conspiracy". He's still going to vote yes on the confirmation.
"The Democrats have already made up their minds and chosen their tactics", McConnell said. She said she clearly remembers the judge, then a teenager, pulling up his trousers after a penis was thrust in her face during a drinking game.
