The Giants stunned many at the National Football League draft by taking quarterback Daniel Jones of Duke at sixth overall, before selecting Clemson tackle Dexter Lawrence with the 17th pick overall and grabbing Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker with a late trade with Seattle for the 30th selection overall.
The reviews on Jones are mixed. According to ESPN's Diana Russini, Washington owner Dan Snyder is "fixated" on Dwayne Haskins, but there is also a case being made elsewhere in the organization for Daniel Jones.
Asked if the plan for Manning was one more season, Gettleman said, "Absolutely not". "Maybe we're going to be the Green Bay model", he said. "Because it's where the value fit meets the draft pick". He'll now have time to learn and prepare behind the best player the Giants have ever featured at the position.
"Who knows?" Gettleman responded before launching into a nihilist take. Haskins fell to them at 15th overall as the team read the draft board perfectly, knowing there would be an early run on defensive linemen.
The SEC had 53 players taken in last year's draft. Lawrence is unlikely to do that. The Giants think he can play more than that, apparently. "I've just got to unlock it, that's all".
Again, this isn't a commentary on the quality of the players, as both Gary and Savage are talented.
The problem isn't that Gettleman probably reached for a quarterback, that he didn't take a supposed sure-thing like Kentucky pass-rusher Josh Allen or that he clearly enjoys offering misinformation to the press and fans. "He's versatile, he's got hips, he can flip to rush the passer and we are thrilled to have him". They've struggled mightily over the past few seasons to build a consistent offensive line and their offensive production has come to a screeching halt as a result. Gettleman attributed that to Lawrence having a "bad foot".
Israel to Name New Golan Heights Community for Trump
Israel captured the Golan from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in 1981, a move not recognized by most countries. Indeed, last month Trump called on the U.S.to formally recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights after 55 years.
The New York Giants can rebuild and also compete in 2019.
It was somewhat of a surprise that MS receiver D.K. Metcalf fell completely out of the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
NY sent three picks to Seattle, a second rounder (No. 37), a fourth rounder (No. 132) and a fifth rounder (No. 142).
"We traded up for we feel is the best cover corner in the draft, the kid from Georgia, DeAndre Baker", said Gettleman. "And if the guy is getting push, the quarterback is going to step up and Dexter will give him a kiss".
That is all probably true.
Drafting a trio of plug-and-play starters after trading back into the first round would've followed the blueprint Gettleman presented to fans following Beckham's controversial ouster.
