Compared with 4G, which launched back in 2012, EE's new 5G network is claimed to offer increased speeds, reliability and connectivity. First, Huawei products have been cast into uncertainty, with a last-minute negotiation of ninety days Android security and OS updates insufficient to pacify concerned carriers and users that the devices won't end up outside of Google's privileged software circle. "We are pausing pre-orders for the Huawei Mate 20X (5G) in the UK", Vodafone UK said in a statement today.
EE said that Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, and Manchester, will be the first cities to get 5G, and that this year will also see additional rollouts in Bristol, Coventry, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham, and Sheffield.
British and Japanese mobile phone companies said on Thursday they're putting on hold plans to sell new devices from Huawei, in the latest fallout from US tech restrictions aimed at the Chinese company.
EE is dropping Huawei phones from its 5G launch.
The telecoms firm announced earlier this year it would test its 5G mobile network during Glastonbury as part of its trials of the technology.
All of this sounds like very good news, although it may initially be a tougher sell to convince consumers that 5G is worth it on their Smartphone vs the existing 4G services (ultrafast speeds aren't as important on a small screen, particularly if you can already get good speeds).

Police have said that the young girl is in a "good condition" but she has still been taken to hospital to be checked out. And the smiles on the faces of adults of the Fort Worth neighborhood where, 24 hours earlier, panic reigned.
The core is where the most sensitive functions occur, including device authentication, voice and data-routing and billing.
Mr Allera said the company has "worked for decades with government" and "at the moment we have no instructions to change our plans", amid security fears around the use of Huawei in 5G networks. "That will be disruptive but there are other people that provide equipment", he said. But the vendor's equipment is still in EE core network; the United Kingdom government is now deciding whether Huawei kit should be allowed in the nation's 5G networks.
"There is little interoperability between vendors, which means it is hard to deploy non-Huawei 5G equipment alongside existing Huawei 4G equipment".
It's planned to reach 1,500 sites by the end of this year.
EE confirmed 5G will be available on smartphones including Samsung, OnePlus, LG, HTC and Oppo. Going through 2020, EE 5G connectivity will arrive in Aberdeen, Cambridge, Derby, Gloucester, Peterborough, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Southampton, Worcester, Wolverhampton and more.
