According to famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the tech giant would release an "all-new" 16-inch MacBook Pro later this year. This recall affects 15-inch MacBook Pros with Retina displays sold for about $2,000. Other units sold outside of this timeframe are unaffected.
About 432,000 potentially affected MacBook Pro units were sold in the USA and 26,000 more in Canada, according to a joint recall announcement from the CPSC and Health Canada. This amounts to 458,000 machines subject to recall. In the US, there have been 26 reports of fires, including five reports of minor burns and smoke inhalation.
"Apple has received 26 reports of the laptop's battery overheating, including five reports of minor burns and one report of smoke inhalation, as well as 17 reports of minor damage to nearby personal property", the commission says.

Ms Merkel, who has been German leader since 2005, was due to set off for Japan later on Thursday for the annual G20 summit. The chancellor has a reputation for stamina garnered in years of late-night domestic and European negotiating marathons.
Anyone with one of the recalled laptops is advised to immediately stop using it and contact Apple to schedule a free fix.
Consumers can determine if their laptop computer is included in this recall by checking the laptop's serial number at the Apple website. Customers can also mail their MacBook Pros to Apple support.
