Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has said his club are aware that Neymar wants to leave Paris St Germain to return to the La Liga champions but the French club are reluctant to sell the Brazilian forward.
Griezmann, 28, is available for a €120million - the value of his release clause - during this transfer window and that could be activated by Barcelona.
In a statement, the La Liga club confirmed Bartomeu's earlier announcement that there had been a meeting, at Barca's behest, on Thursday to discuss a deal to sign World Cup victor Griezmann, who has a release clause of €120 million (RM557.3 million) in his contract.
"The first contact with Griezmann was yesterday", said Bartomeu on Friday. They had also been negotiating the terms of such an agreement since mid-February.
Bartomeu, however, admits the Ligue 1 champions do not want the world's most expensive player to leave, even though he expressed to desire to move. "Oscar Grau, our general manager, met with Miguel Angel Gil (Atletico's general manager) in Madrid and we began to ask him if it was possible that this (scenario) can happen".
Raptors exec Ujiri will stay in Toronto
A brief shoving match ensued, during which the department says Ujiri pushed the deputy twice, one time striking him in the jaw. Alternatively, the Raptors could also use that cap space to sign multiple quality role players to help add depth to the team.
"There is interest in Griezmann".
"As a outcome of all this", the statement said, Atletico informed Griezmann, his representative (the player's sister, Maud Griezmann) and his attorney that the forward must report to the club's training facility on Sunday for the start of preseason practice.
The Catalan club asked for a deferred payment of the buyout clause of 120 million euros ($135 million), a request Atletico said it "obviously" denied.
Atletico accused Barcelona of having "induced" Griezmann to end his contract with the Colchoneros in violation of "the basic norms that govern the integrity of every sporting competition". During the last season, the 22-year-old player scored eight goals and made five goal assists in 29 appearances.
He was named La Liga player of the year in 2016.
