A father was due in court on Saturday to face criminal charges in the New York City deaths of twin babies who he apparently left alone in a parked auto for hours in the summer heat while he put in a day at work.
When Rodriguez returned to his vehicle at around 4 p.m., he noticed his two children were left alone for hours.
He was gone from 8 A.M.to 4 P.M. and police believe he accidentally left the twins in the vehicle.
"Upon arrival officers discovered a 1-year-old female and a 1-year-old male unconscious and unresponsive seated in the rear of a Honda sedan", the spokesperson continues. He returned to the vehicle around 4 p.m., drove a short distance, and noticed the babies. Shortly after beginning to drive, he noticed the lifeless bodies of Maritza and Phoenix, his one-year-old twins in the backseat. "EMS responded and pronounced them each deceased on the scene".

Twins were found dead in a hot auto in New York City. Investigators said he told them he returned to his auto in the afternoon and drove two blocks, but then discovered the infants in the back seat "foaming at the mouth". They say Rodriguez is an upstanding man and a veteran.
NYPD officials said the father was taken into custody late Friday and charged in the early morning hours Saturday.
